On a pitch-black night, a young man and a young woman were standing by the river. No one uttered a sound. He thought he heard some music across the water, but it was just some eerie echo. Then she turned around facing him: "you know it, you will always live in your past...forever on the road."
"Why so?" He sighed slightly.
"Is it a question?"
She did not look at him again, but lighted another cigarette. Slightly amused, she gazed into the white vapor curling up above them, it lingered into the deafening silence of the night. This moment reminded her of the line from On the Road:
The air was soft, the stars so fine, the promise of every cobbled alley so great, that I thought I was in a dream.
